About the Triumph Rocket 3 GT and Rocket 3 R

The modern Triumph Rocket 3 represented a complete redesign of the original Rocket III concept. The first Rocket III had arrived in 2004 with a 2,294 cc three-cylinder engine, but Triumph developed an all-new generation around a larger 2,458 cc triple and introduced the new aluminium-frame platform in 2019. Triumph also simplified the name from “Rocket III” to Rocket 3, clearly distinguishing the new motorcycle from the earlier family. Triumph states that the engine capacity increased from 2,300 cc to 2,458 cc with this generation.

The Rocket 3 R was positioned as the roadster version of the new platform. Its 2,458 cc triple produced approximately 167 PS and an exceptional 221 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, figures that made it the highest-torque production motorcycle of its period. Triumph demonstrated the new motorcycle's performance in October 2019 when a near-production Rocket 3 R recorded a 0-60 mph time of 2.73 seconds at Cartagena in Spain.

The redesign went far beyond additional engine capacity. Triumph moved to an aluminium chassis, six-speed transmission, hydraulic torque-assist clutch and single-sided swingarm with shaft final drive. The electronics package included ride-by-wire throttle control, multiple riding modes, cruise control, keyless ignition, cornering ABS and traction control supported by an inertial measurement unit. A full-colour TFT instrument display also formed the basis for optional Triumph connectivity functions.

The R and GT shared the same core Rocket 3 platform but used different riding ergonomics. The R used the more roadster-oriented setup, while the GT adopted a more relaxed touring position. The basic 2,458 cc platform remained in production through subsequent model years and special editions before Triumph introduced the more powerful Rocket 3 Storm evolution. This particular download should remain catalogued specifically as the 2020 Rocket 3 R, because the attached scan does not contain a factory title page proving additional GT or later-year compatibility.
