Triumph Rocket 3 R / GT Service Manual (2021)

The modern Triumph Rocket 3 represented a complete redesign of the original Rocket III concept. Triumph developed the new generation around a 2,458 cc three-cylinder engine, a substantial increase over the 2,294 cc engine used in the original Rocket III family. The new platform also adopted a lightweight aluminium frame, six-speed transmission and single-sided swingarm with shaft final drive. Triumph introduced this generation in 2019, establishing the Rocket 3 R and GT as the successors to the earlier Rocket III range. Triumph lists Rocket 3 R and GT connectivity compatibility from MY19 onward.

The engine was central to the new motorcycle's identity. Triumph rated this generation at approximately 165 hp at 6,000 rpm and 221 Nm at 4,000 rpm, giving it exceptionally strong low- and mid-range performance. In late 2019, Triumph demonstrated the performance of the new platform by recording a 2.73-second 0-60 mph run with a Rocket 3 R. The aluminium chassis and extensive use of cast and forged components also reduced weight considerably compared with the previous-generation Rocket.

The Rocket 3 R and Rocket 3 GT share the same fundamental engine and chassis platform but target different riding styles. Triumph positions the R as the more performance-focused muscle roadster, while the GT uses a more relaxed riding position and touring-oriented equipment. The GT adds a stronger emphasis on long-distance comfort, while both versions retain the 2,458 cc engine, sophisticated electronics, adjustable suspension and premium braking hardware.

This factory service manual documents both versions together for the 2021 model year. Its coverage extends well beyond conventional engine and chassis repairs, reflecting the sophistication of the modern Rocket platform. The manual includes Triumph diagnostic software procedures, CAN and LIN networks, ABS diagnosis, IMU and traction-control faults, keyless ignition and steering-lock systems, TPMS, calibration downloading and Triumph Shift Assist configuration in addition to complete mechanical overhaul procedures.
