The GSF1200 engine is a bored-out version of the GSX-R1100 engine that has also been retuned for increased mid-range torque. The GSF650 and GSF1250 versions use liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engines, with the GSF1250 featuring an extra balancing shaft to decrease vibrations.

‘S’ models have a half-fairing and twin headlamps beginning with model year 2000. The ‘N’ models are naked motorcycles with a single headlight. The ‘S’ and ‘N’ variants’ availability varies by country and model year.

The Bandit series was known as “hooligan motorcycles.” However, with subsequent changes, the bike has taken on a more sleek and contemporary feel, moving it closer to sports tourer area. The GSF1200 is still popular among stunt riders and is utilized by a wheelie school in the United Kingdom.

Suzuki DL1000/Kawasaki KLV1000

The Suzuki V-Strom 1000, often known as the DL1000, is a dual-sport motorcycle with a 996 cc V-twin engine with a conventional riding position. Suzuki has been producing it in Japan since 2002, but sales in Europe ceased in 2009. The name V-Strom combines the letter “V,” which refers to the bike’s engine arrangement, with the German word Strom, which means “stream” or “power.”

The V-Strom motorbike is built on the V-twin engine that was originally created for the Suzuki TL1000S and TL1000R bikes. It borrows design aspects from previous Suzuki bikes, such as the GSX-R models’ fuel injection. V-Strom 650, a smaller-engined counterpart, is also produced.

Suzuki has been producing the DL1000’s successor, the Suzuki V-Strom 1050 and V-Strom 1050XT, from 2020. Suzuki fully revamped the motorbike, however the engine remained mostly same, with the exception of certain tweaks to meet Euro5 emission regulations.

In Europe, Kawasaki offered an identical version of the bike under the name KLV1000.

Suzuki TL1000S

Suzuki Motor Corporation developed the Suzuki TL1000S in 1997 and manufactured it until 2001. It is also known as the TLS or Suzuki TLS. The 90° V-twin engine, which is still utilized in Suzuki’s contemporary SV1000 and V-Strom 1000 bikes, is significant.

The TLS motor included hybrid chain/gear driven cams and a 90° V-twin for optimum primary balance. A typical cam chain spun a gear, which rotated the cams. This hybrid design greatly simplified maintenance and added auditory character to the motor due to the gear whining. The same engine was utilized in the Suzuki TL1000R. Many of the TL engines were also sold to Cagiva for use in the Navigator and V-Raptor versions. The engine was also utilized by Bimota in their popular Bimota SB8K.

Suzuki designers had to think outside the box to create the TL1000S a viable sportbike. V-twin engines are longer from front to back than typical sportbike engines, which have inline four cylinders. Engineers detached the rear shock absorber/damper from the spring to keep the wheelbase as low as feasible. The spring was positioned on the right side of the bike, and Suzuki created and used a rotary type rear damper with spinning arms to give damping qualities. A variant of this design was also utilized on the Suzuki TL1000R.

The rear shock was designed to be similar to the suspension dampers used in Formula One race cars. This ‘rotary’ damper was believed to overheat the oil if the motorcycle was worked hard and was a cause of anxiety for many, yet it was relatively safe on the road. Many people have had this damper setup changed with coil over shock units such as ‘Ohlins’ and the like.
