Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade Service Manual (2004)

Honda introduced the CBR1000RR in 2004 as the new flagship successor to the CBR954RR and the next major step in the Fireblade lineage. Honda developed it with direct influence from the RC211V MotoGP program, combining a newly designed 998 cc inline-four with technologies such as Unit Pro-Link rear suspension, a center-up exhaust and the world’s first production Honda Electronic Steering Damper. The model marked a shift from the earlier CBR900RR/954RR formula toward a litre-class machine designed to compete directly in the modern superbike category while preserving Honda’s “Total Control” philosophy. The first-generation CBR1000RR used a compact liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four with a 75.0 × 56.5 mm bore and stroke, 11.9:1 compression ratio and PGM-DSFI fuel injection through 44 mm throttle bodies. Honda’s launch material emphasized the engine’s compact dimensions, dual-stage injection and direct air-induction system, all intended to improve response and high-speed power delivery. The engine was paired with a hydraulically operated wet multi-plate clutch, six-speed constant-mesh transmission and chain final drive, creating the mechanical foundation for Honda’s new litre-class superbike.

The chassis was equally important to the model’s identity. Honda used a compact aluminum frame, Unit Pro-Link rear suspension and HESD to combine low-speed agility with high-speed stability. The 2004 factory specifications list a 1,405 mm wheelbase, 17-inch radial tyres, dual front hydraulic discs, a single rear disc and an 18-litre fuel tank. This made the original CBR1000RR a defining litre-class supersport motorcycle that blended racetrack-oriented engineering with predictable road manners rather than pursuing outright performance at the expense of control.

Honda made only minor revisions for the 2005 model year, including detail and equipment changes rather than a complete mechanical redesign. The next clear development step came for 2006, when Honda announced a model change focused on further weight reduction, sharper styling and improved midrange performance.
