Honda CBR600RR Service Manual (2007-2008)

Honda introduced the CBR600RR in 2003 as a more track-focused middleweight supersport developed with ideas drawn from the RC211V MotoGP program. Compared with the broader-road CBR600F tradition, the RR adopted a compact aluminum frame, Unit Pro-Link rear suspension and a high-revving inline-four aimed squarely at supersport performance. The 2007 model was the first complete redesign of the CBR600RR since launch. Honda developed a more compact 599 cc engine, a newly designed Fine Die-Cast aluminum frame and smaller bodywork while cutting about 8 kg compared with the previous model. The wheelbase was shortened, mass was pulled closer to the center of the motorcycle, and the Honda Electronic Steering Damper was made more compact. Honda presented the result as an all-new machine intended to improve acceleration, steering response and overall rider control. The factory service data for this generation lists a 67.0 × 42.5 mm bore and stroke, 12.2:1 compression ratio, PGM-FI with 40 mm throttle bodies, a six-speed gearbox and chain final drive. The 2007 redesign also refined the chassis around Honda’s middleweight supersport motorcycle philosophy. The aluminum diamond frame, inverted telescopic fork, Unit Pro-Link rear suspension and dual front disc brakes were combined with a 1,370 mm wheelbase and 18-litre fuel tank. The slimmer engine and reduced frame mass helped centralize weight, while the electronic steering damper allowed quicker steering geometry without giving up high-speed stability. The model became a benchmark in production-based competition as well, and Honda records that CBR600RR riders won both the Supersport riders’ and manufacturers’ titles for six consecutive seasons from 2003 through 2008.

For 2008 Honda retained the same basic PC40-generation architecture rather than introducing another mechanical redesign. Honda’s 2008 specifications continue the 599 cc liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four with the same 67.0 × 42.5 mm dimensions and 12.2:1 compression ratio, so the 2008 model belongs to the same pre-Combined-ABS phase of the platform. The next significant technical milestone arrived for 2009, when Honda added electronically controlled Combined ABS to the CBR600RR range, the first such production application on a supersport motorcycle according to Honda’s historical record.
